2010 New Years Day - VLA Minimize

From past experience, flying on New Years Day is the best way to kick off the new year. The only question was which direction to go.  I've lived in New Mexico 3.5 years, am only 60 miles from the Very Large Array radio telescope, but have never seen it - today was the day.

It was a beautiful flight down and back.  The VLA sits at about 8500' MSL so I was at 9500' when I started taking photos over the array but down to 9000' by the time I was done. All of the telescopes were relatively close together which made for better pictures.  The telescropes sit on a railroad like track that is a triangle shape.  I would guess each leg is about a mile long so when they spread them out, they are REALLY spread out.
