American Vision Minimize

Within the Emerging church movement (and to a lesser degree outside of it) you will often hear the word “narrative” being thrown around. Most Christians tend to get a bit uncomfortable when you refer to the Bible as a “story.” When they hear the word they automatically think of it in the negative sense, as in children’s story, fable, or myth. This is due in part to the effective tactic of agnostic skeptics who refer to the Bible as a “fairy tale for adults.” However, it is also due to our own people teaching the Bible as a collection of unrelated stories about character qualities and mysterious divine intervention. When our children are young ...Read More »

“Mr. Marinov, can I share a few things with you that I have observed, in connection with something you said in your speech?”

I was approached by this man right after my speech on the defense of property rights at the American Vision Super Conference. The man – I’ll call him “J.” for I don’t know if I can share his name here – looked a little younger than I and he was insistent; he knew he had something important to say, and he was willing to wait until I had the time to sit down and listen to him. He patiently waited until I was available. Then we grabbed two chairs and ...Read More »

Many Christians claim a form of factual neutrality where some subjects (e.g., science, medicine, technology, geography, politics, mathematics) can be taught without any regard to religious presuppositions since “facts speak for themselves.” This is most evident in education where a self-conscious sacred-secular divide is maintained and supported by Christians. Ninety percent of Christian parents send their children to government schools. Since these parents believe that math is math and history is history, the religious stuff can be made up at church. But one hour of Sunday school and an hour at Youth Meeting each week and maybe a mission trip in the summer can’t make up for five days a week, six ...Read More »

1. Read at least 10 pages every day of a non-fiction book in various fields: science, history, literature, music, art, science fiction, theology, economics, etc. Increase it by one page per day until you get it up to 20 pages per day. R. J. Rushdoony read at least one book a day—“underlined, with a personal index in the back cover—six days a week for 25 years. He then followed suit with another 25 years of the same schedule.” Go and do likewise. In ten days, you will have read a 200-page book. That’s more than 35 books per year. In ten years, 350 books. In 40 years, 1400 books. Increase ...Read More »

This Fairy Tale was provided by: Dennis Thurman

There was a President, who newly elected, took a long journey from Chicago to Washington, D.C. He called his fellow Americans to tune in to his State of the Union speech that he might speak of all the bounty with which they had been blessed, but had squandered during the previous administration, through lack of government regulation and programs.

One citizen was a white collar owner of a small family business, another was a blue collar worker trying to meet his family’s needs, and yet another, though poor, was healthy and blessed with the opportunity to make something of his life.

The small businessman invested wisely, worked diligently and became the owner of a Fortune 500 company.

The blue-collar worker scrimped and saved and worked overtime in order to start his own business.

The other man frittered away his opportunity and decided that society was mistreating him, the… Read the rest

When individuals establish for themselves a government of their own choosing, they generally establish a structure for that government, and explicitly spell out the mission of that government, its purposes, and most importantly, the limitations they impose upon that government. Every bit of detail which outlines the functions of the various branches and bureaucracies of a government is in and of itself a kind of parameter which limits the scope of government to a particular area. Governments which step outside of the boundaries of these missions are generally held to be in violation of the charters and constitutions which give them their authority. In short, a government which violates its mission by stepping beyond the boundaries of its enumerated authorities and roles has abdicated its claim to legitimacy. It is no longer a government of informed consent; it is instead a government which exists in spite of consent and whose continued existence depends on misinformed consent.

In this cartoon, Rob Smith, Jr., makes light of the Immigration reform issue as it is tripped up by news of Russian Spies having developed a sleeper group within the United States for years.

In this cartoon politicians are yelling, “We Need Immigration Reform!” while it shows them tripping over the serious Russian Spies issue.

Political Cartoon: Immigration Reform Trips over Russian Spies

If immigration reform, or amnesty as most of us would view it, passes, I am left wondering just how many terrorists will then become citizens since they have been using our wide open borders to come into the United States for years?

In a video released yesterday, June 21, 2010, by The Shark Tank, Florida Senator George LeMieux  accuses the Federal Government of failing to get available equipment to the Gulf region to clean-up the oil spill contaminating the Florida beaches.

According to the Senator LeMieux, during his interview,

“We only have 20 skimmers off the coast of Florida. We have 2000 skimmers in the United States. We haven’t even asked, as the Federal Government, for those skimmers to come to the Gulf.”

He went on to talk about how he had questioned the President about why these skimmers weren’t being deployed to the region and the President felt the skimmers needed to be in their current positions in case there is an oil spill in those areas. LeMieux made the point that this was like not being able to send a fire truck to your house burning down because another house… Read the rest
